Dread disease benefits either decrease the life cover, or are have no effect on the amount of life insurance if a claim is made.

Disease insurance is usually attached to a life insurance policy, but under new generation policies, can be brought separately.

Under older polices, the disease benefit would cease when the principal turned 60 or 65, under new polices the benefit is in force until the principal member dies. With newer policies the member has the option to multiple claim, where this was not possible with earlier policies.
